Health Care, A E-mail from Nader.

Well, as much as some people like to think Ralph Nader is simply trying to ruin everything running for president and doesn't do anything in his spare time. Sure the idea of even writing one book on anything for many people is something that many can not do he's still pushing his issues.

Here is something I got in my inbox today which i thought was interesting and worth posting and sharing, if not because you believe in single payer health care but because the idea of justice and and well being of individuals is more important than any given group as I do, as why I'm such a strong supporter of Nader.

E-MAIL from Ralph Nader

Yesterday morning, eight doctors, lawyers and other activists stood up to Senator Max Baucus.

And the private health insurance industry.

And the corporate liberals in Congress.

The eight activists demanded that single payer - everybody in, nobody out, free choice of doctor and hospital - be put on the table.

And as a result they were arrested.

And charged with a so-called "disruption of Congress."

The Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, Politico, Democracy Now and National Public Radio all carried stories about the protest.

C-Span carried it live.

And it was widely disseminated on the Internet.

Baucus crafted a hearing to kick off the health care debate in the Senate yesterday where 15 witnesses would be at the table to discuss health care reform.10 Excellent Reasons for National Health Care

The insurance industry was at the table.

The Business Roundtable was at the table.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce was at the table.

Blue Cross Blue Shield was at the table.

The Heritage Foundation was at the table.

And corporate liberals like Andy Stern, Ron Pollack, and AARP were at the table.

But not one person who stood for what the majority of Americans, doctors, nurses, and health economists want - single payer - was at the table.

Not one.

When I heard about this corporate line-up last week, I called the office of Senator Baucus.

And politely asked that, as a matter of fairness, a single payer doctor be allowed to testify.

I was told -  no way, Ralph.

The deal is done.

So, yesterday, at 10 a.m., the Baucus Eight, led by Single Payer Action and other single payer groups, took to the Senate Finance Committee.

And directly and respectfully confronted a room full of corporate lobbyists.

And corporate controlled Senators.

And again asked that a group of doctors who were in the room to support Medicare for all be allowed to testify.

The answer again - no, no, and no.

Remember what Senator Richard Durbin said last week?

Durbin said that the banks "own" the Congress.

To which we might add - the health insurance industry and the drug industry own the Senate.

Faxing, writing, and e-mailing is not getting it done.

Enough is enough.

Time for action.

This is a winnable issue.

But the American people need to focus on 535 members of Congress.

And get mobilized.

Single Payer Action is at your service to get the job done.

So, donate now -- $8, $18, $80, or $800.

To honor the Baucus Eight - who all wore black yesterday in memory of the more than 20,000 Americans who - according to the Institute of Medicine - die every year from lack of health insurance.

And to fuel a citizen action movement that will deliver single payer to the American people - sooner not later.

Together, we can break the corporate stranglehold on Congress.

And deliver health care for all.

Single payer.

More comprehensive. More efficient. More humane. More peace of mind.

Let's get it done.

Onward to single payer,

Ralph Nader

PS: Remember, if you donate $100 or more by May 14, 2009, we will send you two galvanizing books that concisely detail the case for single payer in America.

  • Health Care Meltdown by Robert LeBow, MD, revised and updated by Dr. C. Rocky White - a Republican doctor so fed up with the needless suffering caused by the insurance industry that he become a leading advocate for single payer.

    and

  • Ten Excellent Reasons for National Health Care, Edited by Mary O'Brien and Martha Livingston.

This two-book offer ends 11:59 p.m. May 14, 2009.

So don't miss out. Donate now.

We're building one million Americans strong for single payer.

Please share this e-mail with friends and family.

A Letter to the Harvard Community

We write to update you on Harvard's preparations for the outbreak of a new strain of the H1N1 influenza, commonly referred to as "swine flu," that has been spreading throughout the United States and across the globe.

As you may know, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and state health officials today confirmed two cases of this flu in Lowell. Those cases involved two young brothers who became ill after returning from a vacation to Mexico. Officials indicate that neither was hospitalized and both are recovering well.

Internationally, this new strain of influenza has now been isolated in countries from Mexico and New Zealand to the United States. Domestically, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has now confirmed 91 cases in 10 American states. The federal government has declared a national health emergency, a move intended to increase the flow of funding and increase the ability to distribute antiviral medications to state health programs should it become necessary. And the World Health Organization raised its pandemic alert to 5, its second-highest level, indicating that health officials believe a pandemic may be imminent.

To date, there have been no cases of this strain of the H1N1 flu at Harvard University. Any member of the Harvard community suffering from flu-like symptoms should immediately contact Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) or his or her own physician. This is especially true for any individual who recently spent time in any of the countries or states where early cases of this new strain of flu have already been concentrated. Symptoms include body aches, fever, severe malaise, chills, and in some cases, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. HUHS has adopted established guidelines for diagnosing and treating this new strain of flu.

There are no formal University-related travel restrictions in place at this time, but the CDC has recommended that people suspend all but essential travel to Mexico.

To avoid contracting illness, HUHS advises all members of the Harvard community to:

* Practice good hygiene. Wash your hands often with soap and water. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
* Cover your nose and mouth when you cough. Use and dispose of tissues or cough/sneeze into the crook in your elbow.
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
* Avoid close contact with sick people.

Harvard has plans and procedures to address any potential disease outbreak among the University community. An Emergency Management Team -- which includes representatives from HUHS -- is meeting at least once each day to monitor outbreak developments and to plan for potential responses if cases are confirmed on campus.

A list of frequently asked questions has been posted on the HUHS site at http://huhs.harvard.edu/NewsAndEvents/Announcements/Announcement.aspx?id=200141.

For additional information about this quickly evolving situation, please consult the CDC at www.cdc.gov and the World Health Organization at www.who.int/. We will update the HUHS Web site as new information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Steven E. Hyman, M.D., Provost and
David Rosenthal, M.D., Director of Harvard University Health Services

I hate people who have cameras and take photography classes but only bring in pictures of their pets

Because their so lazy they can't even leave their houses to find pictures to take, obviously showing they have no eye.

But I'm not that person, so even though I complain about others I am exempt

(also because my cat was insisting on attention and I wanted to sleep.

Inglorious Bastards

so the skeptical of Hollywood, overly suspicious of media manipulation self that my first instinct to seeing the Inglorious Bastards preview was "is this a propaganda video to get people to symapthize with american policy on it's brutality and torture regimen?

RFK JR said, in a episode of Democracy Now! back in August, that many Nazi superiors, told their solders that if they must surrender, surrender to Americans because they don't torture. This is, actually helped calm some brutality towards Americans during combat, if a Nazi knew he was going to be caught by a Russian what use would he have in surrendering if he knew what was going to await him? I'm sure they would be allot more likely to fight allot harder with less of an interest in preserving their lives.
Not to mention that Nazi Germany made propaganda a bad word. This is because the people were manipulated, to appeal to their sense of history and to give the HOPE of getting out of the desperate times they were in... just the preview seems like history rewritten. It's hard to balme a group of solders as being the evil ones as we all know it's the leaders who make the policies, and final solutions, ans many of these people were fighting because they were concerned with bettering their own country, not too different from solder boys going out now and dying for oil, but we are all desensitized from that and it's not fair to talk about it, "nobody is actually manipulated during war" Why else does one choose to go out to fight it's its not the betterment of their country or the betterment of themselves or their faimlies, we know they were manipulated we know we are.

P.s. I have NO idea if this is based on actual history or anything like that (the story not the war) so if it is, just take me for only wondering why it comes out NOW. But besides that this was a simple response to the trailer, keep in mind I know nothing else about the film than what I saw.

But, i suppose overall you wouldn't say that to a group of solders sent to scalp 100 Nazis, (these people are being manipulated and primed this is what the whole preview is about) and so overall, the context of the situation wasn't a lie. Also I know it's just a movie I'm a party pooper, sure! But why again do you like it? Oh right all the explosions and people yelling stuff and excitement and dramatic music and Brad Pit, context? meaning? deeper meaning ? appeals to a idea of belief? No, can't be, that's not why any of you like things.

I'm not for or against the movie it's self, but that is what I got out of it, my reaction, anything else would be dishonest, sorry if it's the wrong one.

this was mostly just a reaction to a few people posting trailers for it, I couldn't help being surpried how odd it made me feel, and how current allot of these ideas are.

(In Afganistan, with decentralized GOV't in the tribal areas it probably makes allot more sense to make the locals and tribal leaders thoroughly terrified than to conquer them, as there is not really a way to, and how do you do this, brutality!) stuff like that,)

Inteligencia Today with djhives: COUNTDOWN TO THE EVENT.

It's irrelevant weather this is true or not, fiction is obsolete, the only things that are horrifying to people or me these days are "for your consideration pieces" it works like horror fiction but is basing it's self in present reality. The only way to believe anything is simply to incorporate it into your rhythmic thinking and observe in your daily life weather it helps make reality make more sense or not. Like any non-ficion. Accuracy.....well weather or not something is accurate is irreleavant fiction was often very accurate of peoples feelings, but where is fiction these days, it's all theatre of the absurd and "how do you parody a parody?" keeping an open mind about truith weather you find it or not, (based on your own reality) sometimes is the only horrifiying thing.

I suppose it's all excuse, really these days, I have no idea what is going to become of me, but i try to pursue what is interesting and opens up new avenues to my thinking or creativity, imagination or inspiration. The truth of the matter will eventually become known it's then just up to your interpretation of it, and I know mine tends to be extremely disagreeable with many, but is it wrong? If it is it's either because I'm not being honest to myself, ignorant, or just an unable to see the wrongness. I don't need to justify ideas. I just am so sick of people assuming I believe or intrisnsically don't belive certain things I talk about based on their judgement. Sure they can think what they want. But the point is irrelevant. I am a skeptic, I don't necessarily belive anything or not belive it, I consider and think about it, and like to talk about it's merits and what I think is discredable. It does all come down to faith, but really I am an observer and when it proves it's self to be true then I will belive it. besides that it's all irrelevant. Perhaps I wish people would simply question me more, but it never seems to be the case only emotionally loaded gobblety gook.

Inteligencia Today with djhives: COUNTDOWN TO THE EVENT.

Today I just negated the money I earned in the last few weeks, due to stupidiy or at least by accident. I only get older and it's nice I know money I work toward going to a better life for myself (or at least collage tuition) can so easily go down the drain and make me feel like I put up with the bullshit I'm putting up with for really no reason, I work I have to make sacrifices and I have nothing to show but reminded that I'm older and really not that great at making myself happy.

(yep everyone goes through it, I'm not special at all, but it is bothersome to think, and should hopefully make people reexamine aspects of their life, at least alittle. I'm very much a believe that if you don't learn from the problems life throws at you than secretly you like the life you are living and want it to be that way. Sure you may want change, but how is it going to happen? IF you wait for it to come to you you want change but do not want to work for it, meaning you at least think you will be happier keeping your old life than working for a new one, but you'll take it if given. I think that shows a very shallowness in want and when working for anything the if your not working at exactly what you desire you need to keep it in mind and ask yourself if what you are doing is bringing you closer to it.) I'm writing this because just like realizing there is no excuse I feel like I just realized this (hopefully I can keep it in my mind and for future uses.) I don't know if I've been asking myself hard questions lately.
I do really think I want to me a more focused and organized person, but have so much trouble acting on it, like I can't remember because I go back to the reflexive. Which only makes me wonder if I really want that at all, or if I'd be doing it because I think that's what I'm supposed to be doing and not really care about it much at all, it's what I think other people want, which I only at times care about......
